The federal Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to the U.S. “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy lobbied by a former service member who was discharged due to the policy. Although President Obama pledged to repeal DADT during his campaign, the White House and Congress have made no move to pass legislation that would result in repeal.

After backlash and sponsorship withdrawal, Sacramento radio show “Rob, Arnie and Dawn in the Morning” will return on Thursday to make amends for the spiteful and transphobic remarks made by Rob Williams and Arnie States on their May 28th show. Transgender advocates Kim Pearson and Autumn Sandeen will be on the show to “further educate” the hosts.

The pending Illinois civil unions bill was not passed by the General Assembly as of Sunday, May 31. It is delayed until November when the GA will meet for a special session.

A West Virginian lesbian couple was granted custody of their 18-month-old foster child by the state court after a lower court made a decision that would turn the child over to a heterosexual couple. The local court made their decision based on the “traditional family” definition, which the  state Supreme Court determined was not a sufficient basis for the initial decision.

Harvard this week has announced the first fully endowed LGBT studies chair. Named for gay academician F.O. Matthiessen, the position allows a visiting professor to do work regarding gender and sexuality at Harvard with a $1.5 million gift from the Harvard Gay and Lesbian Caucus.
