As part of last week’s Freedom to Marry Day events, a lesbian couple protesting in Arizona obtained an official marriage license from the Pima County Clerk’s Office. Arizona recently passed Proposition 102 defining marriage as between one man and one women, but even without changing the wording on the ballot, the two remain received their license.

A civil unions bill in Hawai’i has passed the House of Representatives. It now needs to clear the State Sentate before becoming the eighth state with some legal protection for same sex couples

The New Mexican legislature has proposed a domestic partnership bill. The bill still needs to be passed on the floor of the State Senate and the House of Representatives.

Utah has struck down two more gay-rights related initiatives–one for adoption, the other for workplace rights–after denying two previous bills. A third bill ensuring hospital visits and medical decision rights for cohabitating adults, including homosexual couples, is still being debated.

The Third Annual M.L.K. Prayer Breakfast will be held in Atlanta this Saturday, February 21. The breakfast benefits the L.O.V.E. coalition, which is dedicated to finding resources for gay men and lesbians of color. Gay pastor O.C. Allen will be the keynote speaker.

The ACLU is suing Nassau County Schools in Florida for preventing students from forming a Gay-Straight Alliance club. Students in those schools report high-levels of verbal and physical harassment and hope to combat discrimination by having a discussion group.

Yale University has officially created an Office of LGBTQ Resources this past month, the first in its history. The office is currently looking for a physical space, but its $20,000 budget will help aid the office’s events.
