A national protest in response to the passage of Proposition 8 in California will be held Saturday, November 15th. Cities in all 50 states will be a part of the event. Student unions at two universities in the UK–Sunderland and Newcastle–have reinstated bans against the National Blood Service for discriminating against men who have sex with other men. The student unions have prevented the NBS from advertising in school buildings until a revision of the policy has been drafted.
The city of Silverton, Oregon was the first American city to elect an openly transgender mayor last week. Stu Rasmussen served two terms as mayor before publicly declaring himself as transgender.
LGBT rights groups in Turkey are joining with other activist organizations to establish a union for sex workers. Sex workers face extreme discrimination and violence, especially if they are transgender, but an established union may help to minimize these threats.
